Demonstrators wearing Yellow Stars in Haifa Latin
by Demonstrator 5:18pm Fri Apr 12 '02

Yesterday some 500 activists Palestinians and Jews demonstrated in Haifa against the Israeli genocidal policy. They wore big yellow Stars of David and joined the international campaign initiated in Switzerland. Israeli right wingers reacted shocked and furiuse. Enclosed is also a picture of a Jewish demonstrator in San Francisco (10.4.2002) comparing the Jenin refugee camp with Warsaw Ghetto.

With the quashing of the Jenin's resistance, Israel commemorated the 59 anniversary of the Nazi suppression of the Jewish revolt in Warsaw.

The demonstration was led by the actor Juliano Mer-Kamis (in the middle of the photo). Israeli right wingers reacted shocked and furious.

Confusion Latin
by Ronnel 6:19am Sat Apr 13 '02

print comment

I cannot begin to comprehend the brilliance of the Pro-Palestinian demonstrators. Using the Jewish stars of the Holocaust as a comparison to the current situation can only make one think, what are these people thinking? I consider myself to be a humane individual and I know that what is happening in Jenin is not pretty. But, I have spoken with friends in Israel who tell me that 90 percent of the people being killed in these camps are connected with terrorism. Yes, they may be considered to be "civilians" but that would be using the term very loosely. These IDF soldiers fighting for Israel's safety are 18, 19, 20, and 21 year olds who would much rather be at home enjoying the company of there friends and family then going into Palestinian territory's. A friend of mine who knows an IDF soldier who is in Ramallah right now, told me that his friend (who served in the Gollan Heights fighting Hezbollah Guerrillas) hates himself for going into Palestinian homes and rummaging through them. Israel, I think has the most moralistic army, and does not "massacre" innocent people. The IDF are forced into a situation where the people they are fighting against like to use civilians, churches, priests as shields. I also believe that the Palestinian people need to look themselves in the mirror and ask themselves who is the cause of there oppression, the Palestinian government which walked away from a chance of an independent state or an Israeli government that takes responsibility for there people's safety. You be the judge

Israeli's army is committing war crimes Hebrew
by Peter 6:31am Sat Apr 13 '02

print comment

Israel has indeed committed war crimes.
Just read the UN statements alone:
185 ambulances shot, 7 ambulance drivers and
doctors killed, 120 wounded. That alone is a
war
crime. But the list goes on and on.
One thing is certain, this last incursion will
finally
put an end to the myth of Israel's touted "purity
of
arms" once and for all. This myth has been
thoroughly repudiated.

I take my hopes from the people around the
world,
including Jews and Israelis, who are steadfastly
opposed to the occupation and to Ariel Sharon's
genocidal policies.

Sharon hasn't yet offered up anything that sounds

the slightest like a peace plan. Israeli
columnists
ask what his plan is. You only need look at his
past behavior to predict this: continued
punishment
of the Palestinian people, continued occupation,

continued expansion of the settlements, continued
destruction of Palestinian infrastructure and
political
systems. Eventually, ethnic cleansing or
permanent
prison cities and refugee camps.

Dear Ronnel, Latin

Dear Ronnel,

You sound so innocent, naive and sincere that I feel I should briefly respond. You write:
"I have spoken with friends in Israel who tell me that 90 percent of the people being killed in these camps are connected with terrorism."

Unfortunately, your Israeli friends have no way of knowing. Neither do I. In fact, it is possible that we will never know. If we do know, I will be surprised if even half of the Palestinians killed were armed. I will be even more surprised if even 10% of them were remotely affiliated with any kind of terrorist activity.

You continue:
"These IDF soldiers ... are 18, 19, 20, and 21 year olds who would much rather be at home enjoying the company of there friends and family then going into Palestinian territory's."

This is true of any army. The US army, the French army, even the army that one does not dare to mention in a manner that could be taken to imply any kind of comparison with the IDF. In fact, in view of the role of the reserve army, this is more true about most other armies than about the IDF!

And you go on:
"A friend of mine who knows an IDF soldier who is in Ramallah right now, told me that his friend ... hates himself for going into Palestinian homes and rummaging through them."

Many Israeli soldiers will hate themselves for what they have been doing. Right after the 1976 war (in which I was a 22 year old soldier) a book appeared, called "The Seventh Day" (in Hebrew: Siach Lochamim) in which those young people reflected on what they had done. They were rightfully ridiculed by being referred to as "shooting and whining" (in Hebrew: "yorim ubochim"). A recent slogan of a group that opposes this war is "not shooting and not whining" ("lo yorim velo bochim").

You add:
"I also believe that the Palestinian people need to look themselves in the mirror and ask themselves who is the cause of there oppression, the Palestinian government which walked away from a chance of an independent state or an Israeli government that takes responsibility for there people's safety."

Unfortunately, here you are simply rehashing the fake mantra that we were all brainwashed with. Israel NEVER intended to give up the (illegal!) settlements, nor to let a truly sovereign Palestinian State be established. The aim of the present war is to avoid a peaceful resolution that requires dismanling the settlements. Nobody believes that it will have any effect on terrorism against civilians, about which I am a lot more concerned than you could possibly be, living where you are.

I agree with your final statement:
"You be the judge"
provided that you make an effort to be somewhat informed.

'Not pretty' !!!!!!! Latin
by Michael 10:46pm Sat Apr 13 '02

print comment

the description of the murder of Palestinian civilians and the complete destruction of all civil infrastructure such as water, power, food and medical supplies as 'not pretty' must be one of the understatements of the century.
A 'humane' person would want to weigh up all the evidence - not simply beleive the propaganda of an occupying force with a lot to hide.
So your friends inform you that 90% of the murdered were guilty? lets abolish all human rights laws and the Geveva Convention then ! Why bother with all that when your friends and my friends can decide who we think are guilty and simply kill who we like and destroy any homes, buildings ,roads, clinics, schools, police stations, prisons, civil institutions etc etc we feel like.
I think timothy McVeigh and his friends felt very 'moral' andf knew who they considered guilty.
An army that allows people to lie for days bleeding to death in the street and blocks ambulances from taking women wishing to give birth to hospital is not one I would call moral !
Stop deluding yourself - victims can easily become abusers and this is the sad fact of a brutal occupation lead by a psychopath responsible for a war crime in lebanon
already.

logical fallacy Latin
by ? 9:35am Sun Apr 14 '02

print comment

Not to overstate the obvious, but this is free info to your benefit, which can be obtained from any basic book about logic. To say that my friend (especially one that is not impartial) said this or that is simply false by definition. You cannot base any argument on what a friend told you. What if I were to tell you that 10 people have told me the opposite of whatever you stated? For one thing, about half the people living in the Jenin camp are children under 18, and I would expect half the rest are women (who knows how many elderly). No, unfortunately the murdered "terrorists," that the Israeli government has created with its brutal behavior in the past half century, are but a small percentage in this recent massacre, so reminiscent of the one Sharon ordered in sabra and shateela; I only faintly hope this not to be as large in scale. I'm still trying to grasp how this belligerent, barbaric lunatic is, out doing what he is facing criminal charges for in Belgium--as opposed to being in a hospital, where insane people who are hazardous to society (often leaders in today's counter-intelligent world) should be. Before this, I was trying to come to grips with how he became Prime Minister of a FREELY VOTING country--as opposed to Syria, for example, where deranged criminals often are elected by 99% of their citizens--with a national unity government; the last fact meaning that he has far greater decision power than in a normal government. Now I appreciate absurdity, but this might be a bit too much and too real for me.

I agree with the previous comment...
Indeed Israeli soldiers are doing their best to avoid civilian casulties...
As in any war there are always mistakes and unavoidable civilian casulties. Get used to it.
Only difference is that the Arabs try to murder civilians with direct intent to kill as many of them as possible and without any prior provocation... Now, that is sick!!! if you ask me!!!
Also, what's up with using Ambulances to transport terrorists and weapons??? That is so wrong to say the least!!!

S-H-A-M-E on the Palestinians with all due respect to their "rights"

Disgusting!!!
