Israel Harasses Wazzani Workers with Magnified Wolf Cries Latin
by An Nahar Newspaper 6:57am Thu Oct 10 '02

Israel Harasses Wazzani Workers with Magnified Wolf Cries
print article

Israel is using powerful loudspeakers to magnify prolonged wolf cries along the border with Lebanon every night in a fresh scare-mongering campaign against workers on the Wazzani diversion project.
Parachute flares also illuminate the night skies for Israeli jets to stage thunderous supersonic flights with an umbrella of Apachi gunships hovering overhead. But work on the project never stopped for a moment, officials said.

President Bush has issued a summons to Ariel Sharon to report to the White House next week, reportedly to coerce him into non-violence in South Lebanon or against Iraq before or during the planned invasion of Baghdad.

The Israeli media reported the summons as Sharon hurled a new threat of military action to stop Lebanon from diverting Wazzani water to meet the drinking and irrigation needs of 100,000 local inhabitants.

Several Tel Aviv newspapers said Bush would "bribe Sharon into being a good boy" by pledging to notify him of the U.S. anti-Saddam offensive 72 hours in advance.

Bush will also promise to take out Iraq's Scud missile bases in the first waves of aerial and naval bombardment to avert a Saddam retaliation against the Jewish state.

As for Lebanon, Bush is pledging to redouble diplomatic efforts to work out a settlement based on making the Beirut government accept a limitation of the water usage for only drinking purposes.

"Israel cannot accept this project and the United States is aware of our position. The Israeli army will strike at the right moment," Sharon told his security cabinet in Jerusalem Sunday shortly before the Washington summons was announced.

An Nahar reported on Monday that Lebanon has postponed until Wednesday a test-run of water-pumping equipment on the Wazzani, citing technical reasons for delaying the operation that had been scheduled for Monday.

was it israel in 1967 to block the sea entrance to
egypt?
with all the due respect mister , supporting
palestinian attacks from their border and then
blocking the sea way to israel is provoking
war..
and about the water sources, correct me if im
wrong but when a country has huge water sources
and has two rivers in same place, but one of them
goes to another country, from which river shall
they tak water? the one that goes to another
country to dry its citizens or from the other
river in that place?
hmm yeah right.. israel provoking war.. we dont
want to loose 15% of our water resources (and
this is by the way, same water jordan and
palestine use).. be a bit more reasonable in your
hate to israel

Be more reasonable?

The Israeli occupation steals water from Palestinians to fill their illegal settler pools while leavin' Palestinians to dehydrate in the desert sun! Israel illegaly occupied Lebanon for practically 2 decades, committing the sabra & chatilla massacre in the process! Now,they expect Lebanese water resources without inteferance or they will provoke yet another war?

Nice neighbors?

why is jordan silent about wazzani issue ? Latin

For two decades, during the israeli occupation of Lebanon, Israel has been pumping water from lebanese rivers into israel. Not surprisingly, israeli trucks also had been seen carrying Lebanese fertile soil into israeli territories in order to use it for agricultural purposes.
As for Wazzani, it's lebanon's right to at least 50% of the water since it springs out from lebanon into a foreign land. However, since the wazzani water serves israelis as well as jordanians and palestinians, why doesn't Jordan seem as much worried as israel? probably the project after all is not a real threat to the future of water in the middle east and that israel is making a big deal out it.
