Isdud (Ashdod)

The next upcoming tour sponsored by Zochrot will be to Isdud (Ashdod) on Friday August 15, 2003. We will leave from the Central Train Station in Tel Aviv at 9:00 a.m. and travel to Isdud via Ramle. Abdallah Zakut, a 1948 refugee from Isdud and Majdal, will guide our trip. Abdallah was a teacher in Isdud's school for boys, that stands in it's place even today. We will post signs in the village, and distribute a booklet produced for the occasion. If you are interested in attending, please contact us so we can guarantee a space on the bus. FRIDAY DEMONSTRATION IN RAS ATIA IN THE QALQILYA REGION AGAINST THE EFFECTS OF THE WALL ON EDUCATION On Friday, August 15, 2003 at 10:30 AM, the people of Ras Atia, Ras E Tira, and surrounding villages are organizing a demonstration against the Apartheid Wall focusing on the effects of the wall on education. Ras Tira and neighboring villages have been isolated between the Green Line and the Apartheid Wall and are enclosed with the settlement of Alfe Menashe. In order to reach their school in Ras Atia, the children of Ras Tira and neighboring villages must pass through the gate in the fence. Their ability to go to school is completely at the whim of the Israeli military. The demonstration will begin in the center of Ras Atia and will march the gate. At the gate, the children of the villages will play a soccer game through the gate symbolically resisting the barriers to their education and the forced division of their communities. Join the people of Ras Atia and neighboring villages in their demonstration against the Apartheid Wall and its devastating effects on their education and their lives. The demonstration will take place on Friday, August 15, 2003. The demonstration will start at 10:30AM in the center of Ras Atia. Meet international activists at 10:00 AM at the Habla Gate, (300 meters after the Qalqilyia check point), or at the Paz gas station after the Jaljulya checkpoint before the road turns to Alfe Menashe.
