Edward Said by sharon Weill 1:29am Mon Sep 29 '03 s_weill@hotmail.com print comment i have this strange need to mourn edward said. it is really strange because it is the first time i feel like this towards a person i do not know personally. I am not only sad for the lost of what he did and represented, but i feel a strong personal lost. how come? maybe because it was so obvious for me that one day i will meet and tell him how we - myself, an israeli, and my palestinian friend, both students preparing a master in HR, were reading together his articles, feeling his words were written for us, and how much impact they had on our possibility to study together, to understand and accept each other and to find a real way to collaborate; and it was so obvious that i will continue to read his articles and opinions with this particular sensation of being at home, of feeling comfortable. because what i read was the voice i wanted to hear; the one that gives you this hope, that can lead you where you want to go. and it was so obvious that he will always be here preaching for the needed changes. but now, that he is gone after all the years of work, and without seeing political fruits in our region, it makes me wonder - are we gonna be able to make this vision ( i dont want to use the word 'peace', that became so pop-politicalized) true, or just like him, be gone before it becomes a reality?
