Ambulances by Knut 8:28am Fri Jun 21 '02 print comment This is one of the actions IDF carried out that stunned all humanrights groups in the entire world in relation to the Jenin massacre (using the word massacre, simply because that is the word used after any suicide bombe with fewer casulties). The IDF claims that miitant Palestinians use the ambulances and stop them accordingly. They have however never provred, or come up with any evidence supporting their claim. The red cross ambulances are being shot at, doctors die, patients die, Infants die, pregnant women loose their child as a result of this. AND IT CONSTITUTES A WAR CRIME. A crime against humanity. There is no confusion about this, and the IDF refuses to comment this. Hopefully the day will come when the Israeli politicians and officers.....and sometimes soldiers will stand trial and be convicted if guilty. By the way: there is a ruling in Belgium the 26 june. PM Sharon might be put on trial for the massacres committed in 1982. It will be interesting to see if the Israeli people will elect a man suspected of this, and found responsible by the Israeli judicial system........... You did not hear about it because the foreign media didn't find those incidents important enough. Many people actually posted articles about it from the Israeli press here on indymedia but as usual the leftists dismissed the evidence as Israeli propaganda. The term "massacre" is used in reference to the suicide bombings because suicide bombings are intentional and planned murder of civilians. There was no massacre in Jenin. add your comments

These International ambulances are The red Cross' ambulances. I am aware of some incidents that happened some years ago when the IDF accused the Red cross. The red cross responded and wanted to see the evidence....IDF did not give another reponse to this. Thay never produced any evidence at all, just kept shooting at the ambulences. However there are also ambulances that are "Palestinian", and are marked as such. What these do I do not know, but the IDF shoots at ambulances indiscriminatly. International or not. As for the massacre, what can I say. I do not know if 60 Palestinians died, or hundreds as quoted earlier by the IDF. Massacre was the word used by Mr. Shimon Peres, untill he "changed his mind". And targeting civilians: what is the IDF doing? What do you think your precious leaders are doing? Maybe you believe that there are no Palestinian civilians? Well there are, and thay are getting killed on a daily basis, targeted or not, the IDF pulls the trigger. Some politicians use the words "transfer", I prefer ethnic cleansing......same thing. And about the ICC. You are right. This is for cowards, and nothing for the allmighty rightist Israelis. You are above reason, and everything you do is justified no matter what. It is a little thing called the 1949 Geneva convention, created by the same people that created Israel one year before. Between 1948 and 1967 the Palestinian territories were occupied by Jordan and Egypt. Why didn't they fight then? Also, you can say all you want about Barak's offer but it was unprecedented - because no other Israeli PM offered as much as he did. While it was not acceptable from the Palestininian POV it was a starting point - the latter Taba offer was much closer to Palestinian demands. It was hope not otherwise. Yet despite of the progress the Palestinians CHOSE to fight, nobody forced them. The article says "take advantage of the international protection afforded to ambulances" but I didn't watch the video so I don't know. I do know however that Red Crescent ambulances are being used by the Palestinians in their war effort. It was proven a few months ago. I can say that I believe - I do not know every specific case naturally - that the IDF does not target Palestinian civilians intentionally nor does it plan attacks on civilians [specifically]. It is only logical as the soldiers represent many different political views (there are still plenty of leftists in the IDF). The harm to the Palestinians comes from their own battle tacticts like creating a bomb lab in an apartment building. While the excuse about occupation may have been true before, this time it's not. What bribe are you talking about? By the way....an earlier comment. "Give the money back to Israel". First the Norwegian state donated a lot more than this to the same organization (The Peres center). Second if the money is to be returned it should go to rebuilding the schools, hospitals in the West Bank that were destroyed by Israel, or back to Israeli peace organizations. Hello Stinger by Knut 1:41pm Fri Jun 21 '02 print comment Yes I did read about the Israeli citizents that were killed in the West Bank. It is also horrific, something that should not happen. Such a waste of precious life. Be it Israelis who die or Palestinians, it does not justify more killings. Living up here in Norway I can not imagine how it must feel like for the Israeli people who live in constant fear. And I deeply apologize if some words or lack of words have offended the victims of these attacks. "Military incursions", checkpoints, Jewish only roads, Settlements, extreme limits for movement........this is why many Palestinians rather die fighting. But we are surronded by terrorists you might say, well some are terrorists...like the suicide bombers who target civilians. They are criminals yes, but if you want an end to these attacks you must look at why they are carrying out these attacks. Some rational thinking must take place. Hateing someone does not make you kill yourself. The reason why, as some have stated,: it is better to die standing, than live on your knees. And it is because of the occupation. Even the majority of the Israeli people want to end the occupation........DO IT. Otherwise more people will die in vain. Military solutions are not working. "Operation Defensive Shield" did not do much good, and the next military operation will not make the hatred go away, hence produce more suicide bombers. Freedom!! But I also see that you cannot see what the situation is like all the way there in Norway. What you and so many other people who post on this site must come to realize is that Israel would like nothing more than to end the occupation. That is why Barak offered to leave the territories at Camp David. I don't care if you think Arafat should have said yes or no to the offer; the fact is that Israel offered to leave. If Palestinians consider themselves hopeless, it is the fault of their leaders, who are corrupt and feel threatened by democracy. But when the violence broke out, and especially since it has focused on civilians, there is simply no way Israel can leave without exposing its citizens to an unprecedented wave of terror. Security officials stop terrorists almost every day. All that prevents more attacks from happening are the closures and the limits on movement. There were no limits on movement, nor closures before the uprising. There were, however, plenty of attempts by terrorists to attack. Since the intifa started, more than 100,000 Palestinians have lost the chance to work in Israel. As long as there is terror, the government is not about to let them in. Blame Israel for this if it makes you feel good, but that will not get them back to their jobs inside the country. Anyone who calls on Israel to "just end the occupation" either wants to see more Israelis die, or doesn't understand that this will certainly happen. In order for the occupation to end, the Palestinians must demonstrate that they can police themselves and respect Israel's borders. When the situation calms, the closures will end, the movement will not be restricted, and negotiations will begin on a Palestinian state. Until that day, you can scream at everything you see as Israel's violations, but it will not solve the problem. Only an end to incitement and an end to violence will lead to freedom.
