Ta'ayush demonstration near the 'Wall of Separation' Latin
by Bryan Atinsky of Indymedia Israel 11:14pm Sat Apr 26 '03
bryan@indymedia.org.il

Today approximately 600 Arabs, Jews and Internationals demonstrated against the annexation and expropriation of Palestinian land that is taking place through the building of the 'Wall of Separation' in the Tulkarem region. As stated on the Ta'ayush website: "'The Wall of Separation', which has risen far and deep east of the Green Line. The outline of this wall/fence was decided according to the demands of the settlers. It constitutes an organized land robbery on a grand scale, effectively annexing thousands of dunams of land from the West Bank into Israel."

After walking through a agricultural field, the demonstrators arrived at a section of the 'Separation Wall' in the process of being built. A line of sandy ground, absent of vegetation, winds its way up hills and into valleys into the distance.

After crossing the unbuilt section of the fence and passing a few more fields, we were finally met by about 250 Palestinians from the villages around the area, whose lands and lives are being negatively impacted by the fence.

The multi media: An al-Jazeera reporter in the foreground and Haim Yavin of Israeli Channel 1 (working on some documentary) in the background. I also saw some European television journalists, a reporter from Yideot Aharonot, radio Galatz, however there were no reporters from any of the three Israeli television news shows and after watching all three news shows, I saw no mention of the demonstration on Israeli T.V.

Soldiers begin to talk with representitives of Ta'ayush. From the little I listened to the conversation, the soldiers were annoyed that the demonstration caused the Army to waste it's precious resources creating 'security' for the demonstrators, who were there without permission and that the demonstrators should vacate as soon as possible. Apparently the Ta'ayush representitives persuaded them to allow the demo to continue, as we were there for almost another hour.

When the demonstration was over, the Israeli demonstrators remained around, as a barrier of sorts between the Palestinians and the soldiers, until the Palestinians from the nearby villages were escorted safely away from the soldiers reach.

exellant report! Latin
by sharon 2:57pm Tue Apr 29 '03

print comment

I was there - It is an exellant report, thank you Brian , good good good.
However, it is a pitty that it was a privat experience for the 5 buses that came from Israel, with the ovious absence of the mainstream media that shows only the bad news, and gives no hope for peace.
This demonstartion shows that it is possible to meet and to be together.
I met there some chabab ( young palestinians) that were talking with me. they did not represent the majority of palestinians that were there, but they talk with me among other things, in favor of the hamas , the jihad and the terrorists attacks. One young man of their village explosed himself two weeks ago.
i know that most of israelis could not hear that, and would be afraid or angree on the "potential terrorists", or estonished how can we talk with people that support terrosism ect ect.
However, I think that the real question is why those young people can talk with me? why i trust they will never kill me? why cant it be global

response to Sharon's comment Latin
by mikhailovna 3:53am Sun Jun 8 '03

print comment

Sharon, they can talk to you because they find you sympathetic. I am sure you are a nice person.

But let me ask you -- do suicide bombers try to talk to their victims before they kill them? When doing their actions, they do not distinguish between left and right-leaning civilians, between those who may be sympathetic to their causes and those who are not. In fact, several months ago, an eleven-year-old schoolgirl, active in Palesinian-Israeli brotherhood actions, was killed by a suicide bomber who mounted her bus.

Sharon, if one of those nice young men gets onto your bus, with a bag full of explosives, will they kill you along with all the other civilians or spare you? How about their friends, who don't know you or your opinions?

It is a matter of choice Latin
by AKhalil 6:34pm Tue Aug 26 '03

print comment

In response to questions of equating or justifying Israeli violence and terrorism in relation to Palestinian violence. The fact of the matter is that Israelis chose, of their own free will and design, to come to Palestine, kill and expell its people, and take over their lands and properties. This did not just happen once 50 years ago, it has continuously ans systematically happened since then and is still going on today. As a matter of policy, Israel has never showed any inclination to change from this course. Futher, Israelis still have a choice to make: they could willingly leave Israel and go back to where they came from, or emigrate to some other country (The USA is a good place, you cannot claim that you will be prosecuted there, since you rule it).

The Palestinians had and still have no choice in the matter. They did not ask for their country to be colonized. They did not petition and bribe England to give their own land away to some other people. They did not arm the Israelis. They did not ask the Israelis to shoot and kill their fathers, brothers and children. They did not ask Israel to destroy their fields, demolish their houses and take over their lands, etc... The list of Israeli atrocities goes on and on. They also have no where to go. A Palestinian is from and of the land of Palestine. He is not Russian or Egyptian to go live in Russia or Egypt, or anywhere else. One can find Yemini jews, for example, but there are no Yemini Palestinans. The Yemini jew should go back to Yemin and leave Palestine to the Palestinians. If the government of Yemin then abuses you, then by all means do assasinate their leaders. The Palestinans do not have to pay for someone else's crimes. (Remember, Yemin here is for an example. It could be any other country, especially those who prosecuted you. You should make "them" pay).
