Today is the 6th day of his strike. print article Legal agreement rescinded The 5 American internationals who have been on hunger strike struck a deal with the Ministry of Interior regarding their ultimate fate. They agreed to leave voluntarily providing that they received a letter confirming that they were not deported and that there were assurances regarding their ability to return, should they wish to do so. Huwaida Arraf, who has been on hunger strike since last Friday, received her letter late yesterday. Assurances were given to our legal advisers that the letter would be issued to all 5. Early this morning Arraf boarded a plane back to the States. We have now been informed by the authorities that the 'deal' does not cover the remaining 4 men. Ths is yet another example of Israel's willingness to make hollow promises, as has been seen on countless ocassions with the Palestinians. The verbal assurances were taken in good faith and Arraf left solely on that basis.
