JAYYOUS: PALESTINIAN FAMILY ISOLATED BEHIND THE

Jews Against the Occupation: Davidέ***έ*΅*έ*΅***
On July 28, there will be an action in Jayyous to
deliver food to a Palestinian family cut off from the
village by the security wall, called the "Apartheid
Wall" by Palestinians, that is currently under
construction by Israeli construction crews in the
occupied West Bank.
The family of Ali Ibrahim Abu Sharib is an
eight-member Bedouin family who live just to the south
of Jayyous. They rely on access to the village for
food, water, school for their children, and food
supplies for their livestock. Their home lies within
the West Bank, approximately three miles from the
Green Line. Until July 18, the family was able to
walk across the construction site of the wall to get
to the village of Jayyous, but on that day, razor wire
and a chain link fence between their home and the
village of Jayyous cut them off from the rest of the
village, and the Sharib family became prisoners in
their own home.
On July 20, Palestinian peace activists from Jayyous
and activists from the International Solidarity
Movement (ISM), including activists from Boston To
Palestine and Jews Against the Occupation, organized a
visit to the Sharib family. An attempt was made to
walk across the path of the wall, but the activists
were shot at by Israeli forces guarding the wall.
Through a conversation shouted across the fence, the
family told us they were suffering from a lack of
food, water, medicine, and feeding supplies for their
livestock, on which they rely for all their income.
After that visit we planned along with the ISM a day
of solidarity with this family. On July 21, we took
with us food supplies for the family, and we were
accompanied by members of the international news
media. Our visit was successful, in spite of obstacles
that we encountered from Israeli forces. We were able
to give the food to the besieged family.
From Jayyous, we call for all human rights
organizations to address the plight of the isolated
Sharib family. The mother of the family is diabetic,
and her insulin supply has run out. One of her teenage
sons has an eye problem and needs treatment. A
Palestinian ambulance will attempt on July 26 to reach
the family.
έέέThe Sharib family is just one tragic example of the
thousands of families who are being isolated from
their villages and their farmland by Israel's
Apartheid Wall that is cutting deep inside the West
Bank. add your comments
